We will listen, we will examine, and we will act.

Black Lives Matter.  We at Roots of Inclusion stand and act in solidarity to end systemic and institutionalized racism and to work for social justice.  We know that centering anti-racism is the only way to address the inequity and injustice that pervades our systems and ensure every person exists and thrives within the circle of human concern.

Belonging is based in the recognition of our shared humanity.   We have long understood that authentic and meaningful inclusion and belonging cannot exist in an education system that continues to uphold and protect systemic racism.  Racism and ableism are inextricably linked, working cooperatively to dehumanize, other and limit opportunity, access and belonging.  Roots of Inclusion reaffirms our commitment to centering those voices most impacted by an issue, listening to understand.  We will constantly examine how the status quo is being upheld and be certain that we are not inadvertently perpetuating the very inequities that we are working to eliminate.  We will continue to work to dismantle systems of inequity and policies that are based in oppression and exclusion.  We are committed to working alongside and supporting families, communities and advocates that have long been on the front lines of this fight.

Our existing institutions were never designed to uphold the future that we want for our children, our grandchildren, our communities.  We know it will take us all working together for an equitable and just society where everyone thrives and belongs.
