Response to the
Proposed Restructuring of HHS
Statement Summary:
Roots of Inclusion strongly opposes the Trump administration’s proposed restructuring of the Department of Health and Human Services, which includes dismantling the Administration for Community Living (ACL). This move threatens the civil rights of people with disabilities by shifting ACL’s critical functions into medically-focused agencies, undermining its core mission of promoting self-determination, community living, and equity. Developed without input from the disability community, the proposal disregards decades of bipartisan progress. Roots of Inclusion calls for its immediate reversal and stands in solidarity with the disability community in defending the right to live, learn, and thrive.

Response to the Proposed Dismantling of the U.S. Department of Education
Statement Summary:

On March 20, 2025, the Trump administration issued an executive order to dismantle the U.S. Department of Education (ED), an action that Roots of Inclusion strongly opposes. For over 40 years, ED has been critical in protecting students’ civil rights, especially for students with disabilities and those historically underserved. Its work ensures equitable access to education, enforces laws like IDEA, and promotes inclusive learning environments. Eliminating ED would remove essential federal oversight and threaten the progress made in educational equity and accountability. Roots of Inclusion remains committed to defending the rights and dignity of all students, and to building systems where every child can thrive.
