Belonging through Acceptance, Connection, and Inclusion
The Building Belonging, Together Community Conversation Toolkit has been developed to guide people who are interested in gathering diverse perspectives on belonging within their school, district, and community through a process of active listening and mutual learning. This toolkit will help individuals and teams identify ways to enhance belonging and create an environment where everyone can engage, learn, and thrive.

The Indicators of Belonging, developed by Dr. Eric Carter, provide a framework to assess and enhance a sense of belonging in school communities. The indicators emphasize critical elements that contribute to one's feelings of being included, valued, and connected.
Roots of Inclusion has incorporated Dr. Carter's Indicators of Belonging into this toolkit to ground the Community Conversation in a discussion about how schools and communities can move toward creating environments where everyone feels a strong sense of belonging, leading to more positive school environments and outcomes for students. By focusing on these areas, we can work together to foster more inclusive, supportive, and connected community in and out of school. |
